Second phase of the project "Education for Democratic Citizenship in Ukraine" has started
In June, 2010 during working visit of delegation from the National Academy to Zurich Pedagogical University (Switzerland) the bilateral Cooperation Agreement for the second phase of the project "Education for Democratic Citizenship in Ukraine" which will take place in 2010 - 2012 has been signed.
Mr. Benedikt Hauser, the representative of State Secretary for Science and Researches of the Swiss Confederation (SER) told: "Project is extremely important both for Ukraine and for Switzerland as its purpose has a strategic character for both countries and consists in increase of influence of education on a civil society development".
Co-heads of International Projects in Education, Zurich Pedagogical University Rolf Gollob and Wiltrud Weidinger mentioned that cooperation of Zurich Pedagogical University and National Academy during a pilot phase was very successful and has got wide publicity both in scientific society and among public of both countries.
Natalia Protasova, Head of the Project in Ukraine, pointed out that the National academy with support of Zurich Pedagogical University carries out an extremely important function and acts in role of platform for research of materials on citizenship education and human rights, and as well unites scientists, public servants and representatives of all levels of education system in development of concepts and recommendations for implementation of governmental educational policy for democracy expansion in Ukraine.
Due to close cooperation with Project strategic partners - Council of Europe, Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Swiss Cooperation Development, National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences and University of Education Management during the first phase considerable results were achieved.
Consequently, leading Ukrainian and Swiss experts in education developed the project of the concept paper for implementation of the governmental educational policy for democracy development in Ukraine, three Council of Europe's manuals on education for democratic citizenship (EDC) are translated and adapted, the module "Education for Democratic Citizenship" for the students of National Academy is developed, pilot approbation of teaching materials in educational institutions of Kiev and Zurich took place during the three-day workshop where teachers were taught to work with training materials on education for democratic citizenship. Besides, within the limits of Project there is the dialogue of experts concerning the basic directions education for democracy in Ukraine and Switzerland development and introduction, taking into account the world experience in this field. Thus, series of scientific and practical activities devoted to experience exchange - symposia "Education for democracy" (Kiev) and "The strategy of the EDC Development in Ukraine and Switzerland: European Perspectives" (Zurich) took place besides numerous working meetings of experts.
During the second phase of the Project it is planned to conduct translation and adaptation of CoE's teaching materials on EDC, to develop module "Managements of Changes in Education" for students of National academy, to organize two-day workshop for training oblast representatives and distribution of materials, to carry out two scientific exchanges for experts, to start the implementation and dissemination of EDC materials both in educational institutions, and in sphere of public administration. Thus, on June, 23rd in "Ukrinform" press conference for presentation of CoE's manuals, translated and adapted by the leading Ukrainian experts in education will take place.
